Freshman Emilee Clarey of Marian University field hockey has earned her first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Defensive Player of the Week award.
Clarey (New Hartford, N.Y.) led Marian to a split in its first SAA road trip of the season. She opened the weekend making a pair of saves in a 4-0 shutout of Sewanee. The performance was her third shutout of the season, she is the only goalkeeper in the SAA with multiple shutouts so far this season. She followed that up with a career-high 10 saves against Rhodes. Through seven games, Clarey has made 36 saves with a 1.99 goals against average and .720 save percentage.
