City of Fond du Lac Celebrates Completion of Main Street Rehabilitation Project

City reopens Main Street to through traffic after major construction

Today, the City of Fond du Lac hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of its Main Street Rehabilitation Project, a major road enhancement initiative in downtown Fond du Lac.

“We have a new Main Street for the first time in 30 years,” shared Joe Moore, Fond du Lac City Manager. “This investment is part of the ongoing improvements throughout the downtown, which now has a record level of occupancy.”

Main Street improvements included milling and removing the top five to seven inches of asphalt from 6th Street to Merrill Street, laying a new layer of pavement, and repairing curbs, gutters, crosswalks/ramps, utility structures and water mains. The Main Street Rehabilitation Project officially began in April 2025.

“It took many hands for this vital project to come to fruition,” said Adam Schmitt, City of Fond du Lac Operations Superintendent. “I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all members of the construction team, including crewmembers, engineers, city officials, administrators, contractors and many more who had a hand in ensuring this project’s success. Thank you as well to our residents and downtown business owners for your patience throughout the necessary road closures and traffic detours that made this project possible.”

“This project represents an investment not just in infrastructure, but in the heartbeat of our city,” added Amy Krupp, Executive Director of the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership. “A strong, revitalized Main
Street ensures that downtown continues to thrive as a destination for local businesses, events and community traditions.”

With the completion of this project, Main Street is now entirely reopened to through traffic. The City of Fond du Lac encourages residents to enjoy local businesses and community events in this revitalized space.
