Button Up Your Flannels – The Ledge Games Are Back

Annual timber event returns for sixth year to raise funds for local technical college scholarships

The Ledge Games, a local timber competition for charity, returns to Red Cabin at Green Acres on Saturday, September 25, 2021, for its sixth year of competition. The event will welcome 100+ amateur lumberjacks and jills, as well as family and friends, for a day filled with flying axes, flannels and friendly competition.

Each year, TLG invites men and women to complete a variety of events in the Man of the Ledge, Woman of the Ledge and, new in 2021, Mentor (ages 55 plus) divisions. Competition is designed to test competitors’ strength and finesse with events including caber toss, hammer toss, archery, keg toss, speed chop and axe throwing. The winners of each event will take home their own TLG axe, and the winners of each division receive a new chainsaw and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

“It’s hard to believe we’ve been at this for six years, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to The Ledge Games in 2021,” Tyler Oestreich, The Ledge Games co-founder, said. “The Ledge Games offer a great outdoor retreat for a day, and we’re grateful for our primary sponsors, including ATI, Graymont, Red Cabin at Green Acres and Wisconsin Lighting Lab, Inc., who continue to support our mission.”

Each year proceeds from the event fund scholarships for students at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac. Since its inception, The Ledge Games raised over $34,500 for 58 scholarships – helping make education more accessible and affordable for local students studying engineering, manufacturing and technology.

“First and foremost, this event is about supporting and engaging with our community,” Josh Michels, The Ledge Games co-founder, said. “Supporting local students has never been more important, and we’re proud to help MPTC students fund their education all while having a little bit of fun.”

The Ledge Games kick off at 8:00 a.m. with events running until approximately 4 p.m. To learn more about The Ledge Games, The Ledge Games Scholarship, or to register to compete, visit LedgeGames.com.
