Two student-athletes from the Marian University women’s basketball have been named Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.
Senior Lexi Brakebush (Westfield, Wis.) continued her excellence and had a breakout season on the court to earn her third Academic All-District selection. Brakebush was the top scorer for the Sabres and enjoyed a career year in several categories to earn a spot on the All-NACC Second Team. She averaged 13.8 points per game on the season to go with 50 assists, 42 steals, and 104 rebounds. Brakebush earned a NACC Player of the Week selection after posting her first double-double against Alverno followed by a career-best 30-point performance against Illinois Tech. Brakebush finished the regular season first in the NACC, 32nd in the nation, shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. She closes out her Marian career, fifth all-time for made free throws and 10th all-time for made three-pointers.
Junior Chelsea King (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) earns her second CSC Academic All-District nod after another strong season on the court. King averaged 12.0 points per game on the season and had at least 20 points in three games. She had a strong start to the season which saw her score double-digit points in the first 10 games of the season including back-to-back performances against St. Scholastica and Lake Forest that saw her score 27 and 23 points. King closed out her season with a double-double after scoring 17 points with 13 rebounds and four steals against Lakeland. Defensively, she capped off the campaign with 38 steals posting at least three swipes in six games.
