Brakebush, King earn CSC Academic All-District recognition

Junior Lexi Brakebush and sophomore Chelsea King of Marian University women’s basketball have been selected Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The Academic All-America program, run by CSC, is considered one of the most prestigious awards as it is one of the few awards that combines academics and athletics.  To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at their current institution.  The student-athlete must also be at least a sophomore.

Brakebush (Oxford, Wis.) started in all 25 games averaging 9.4 points per game with 3.1 rebounds per game and 55 assists.  On the defensive end, she also had 37 steals on the year.  Finished with double-digit points in 10 games scoring a season-high 22 points at Lake Forest.  Also went for 10 points and six assists at home against Beloit.  Had multiple steals in 11 games with a season-high of five coming at home against CUW and at Lake Forest.

King (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) adds this award after being named All-NACC Honorable Mention this past season.  King finished the season averaging 13.3 points per game with 5.0 rebounds per game and had a pair of double-doubles.  She had five games with at least 20 points including a career-high 27 points coming against Concordia Chicago.  She also grabbed 12 rebounds in that victory over the Cougars for the first double-double of her career.  King would later post a double-double in a win over Illinois Tech after scoring 11 points with a career-high 15 rebounds.  She earns this award after earning First Team All-NACC honors with the Marian women’s soccer team this fall.
