Big performances lift Marian women’s soccer past SNC

Marian University women’s soccer (3-2-2, 2-1-0 NACC) scored four goals in the first half to defeat St. Norbert 4-1.

  • All of the scoring came in the first 32:59 as Marian handed St. Norbert its first conference loss.
  • Senior Lillian Giron opened the scoring just 5:04 into the match off of an assist from junior Jacqueline Campos.
  • Giron wasn’t finished netting another goal, this time assisted by freshman Emily Gordillo, at the 21:34 mark.
  • Junior Abby Larson forced a turnover and scored on the breakaway just 4:24 later to put Marian up 3-0.  The goal was her second of the season.
  • Giron capped off her first hat trick at the 31:26 mark as Marian took a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Green Knights answered just 1:33 later to put the halftime tally at 4-1.
  • Both offenses slowed down considerably in the second half and the final would settle at 4-1.

  • Marian was outshot 21-10 for the game but just 12-8 in shots on goal.  The second half saw Marian outshot just 7-2 compared to 14-8 in the first 45 minutes.
  • The Green Knights had 12 corner-kick opportunities, while Marian did not create a chance.
  • Just 10 fouls were called in the game, seven on Marian.
  • The victory snaps a four-match losing streak to SNC and is the first victory over the Green Knights since 2014.

Sophomore Chelsea King came up big in net again making 11 saves, her second straight performance with double-digit saves.
Junior Abby Larson scored her second goal of the season.
