Bats go quiet for Sabre softball at Benedictine

Marian University softball (17-15, 12-6 NACC) had a 10 game winning streak snapped falling to Benedictine 9-0 in five innings and 2-1.

GAME 1

  • Marian got a single from junior Sofia Cerullo in the second and it proved to be the only base knock for the Sabres.
  • The Eagles did all of their damage in two innings scoring four in the second and five in the fourth.
  • It was the eighth time this season the Sabres were held scoreless.

GAME 2

  • Game two opened as a pitching duel as well with Cerullo knocking in the first run of the game in the top of the fourth.
  • Marian was able to hold the Eagles scoreless until the sixth when Benedictine took the lead with two runs.
  • An error allowed the tying run to get on base in the top of the seventh but Marian was unable to do anything with it.
  • Marian is now 14-25 all-time against Benedictine having lost the last seven meetings.

Junior Sofia Cerullo was the lone Sabre with a hit in each game and drove in the only run of the day for Marian.
Graduate student Cailie Pliner went 4.0 innings allowing just one hit in game two.
Sophomore Erin Cowe scored the lone Marian run of the day.
