Balanced attack leads Marian men’s volleyball past Rockford

Marian University men’s volleyball (12-13, 5-5 NACC) easily took care of Rockford defeating the Regents 25-16, 25-12, 25-19.

  • Rockford opened with a 7-5 lead only for the Sabres to erase that advantage with a 11-2 spurt.
  • Marian remained ahead comfortably the rest of the way and scored five of the final seven points.
  • The second set had Marian ahead 13-10 before scoring 10 of the next 11 points to lead by 12 at 23-11.
  • After a Sabre service error, Marian put the set away with a kill and ace from senior Isaac Dreifuerst.
  • The third set started with an 11-11 stalemate before Marian took a 17-12 advantage.
  • Rockford cut its deficit down to two at 19-17, but the Sabres put the match away with a 6-2 spurt.

  • Marian had a slim advantage for kills at 29-25 and finished with a 32-24 edge for digs.
  • The Sabre block had a huge match with nine rejections to only one for Rockford.
  • Marian also finished with a 7-2 edge for service aces.
  • Defensively, Marian held Rockford to just a .060 attack percentage.
  • Four Sabres finished with at least six kills in the victory.
  • Marian is now 6-1 all-time against Rockford with all six victories being sweeps.
