Members of the Leadership Fond du Lac Alumni Empty Bowls Committee present the People’s Choice Award to representatives of The Backyard Grill and Bar for their Lasagna Soup entry. Empty Bowls is a fundraising event held to draw awareness to hunger in our community by serving soup and other tasty morsels during the event. Colorful bowls are created by area art students as a symbol for those who go without food every day.

The Lasagna Soup entry was one of soups available and The Backyard Grill & Bar faced stiff competition from Salty’s Seafood & Spirits, Sunset on the Water, Ziggy’s Pub, Boda’s Restaurant, and Radisson Hotel & Conference Center. Through the generous donations of businesses and community service groups, including the soup, thousands of dollars are donated to help area food pantries. These donations will be made to area food pantries in the weeks to come. This event is organized by the Leadership FDL Alumni.

Leadership Fond du Lac is a program of Envision Greater Fond du Lac that provides information and experience to individuals who are willing to commit to serving their community. Accepted applicants learn about local institutions and issues and put their skills and knowledge to use through the required small-group Community Project. Through the program, individuals develop leadership, interpersonal and communications skills, and develop a strong network throughout the community.
