Ayeni, King named Sabres of the Month for February

Junior Chelsea King of Marian University women’s basketball and sophomore Andrew Ayeni of Marian University men’s basketball have been named the Sabres of the Month for February.

King (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) helped lead Marian to three victories to close out the season.  She averaged 12.3 points per game over seven games to go with 5.9 rebounds per game, 15 assists, four blocks, and nine steals.  King had double-digit poitns in four of those games including a 21-point performance with six assists in a road victory at Rockford.  She would hit a game-winning triple and made a victory-sealing steal in the victory over the Regents.  King closed out the season with her first double-double of the campaign scoring 17 points to go with 13 rebounds against Lakeland.  She almost posted a double-double in a win over Illinois Tech scoring 13 points to go with eight boards.  This is the second time this academic year she has been named the Sabre of the Month after earning recognition in November.

Ayeni (Chicago, Ill.) played a big role on both ends of the floor to lead Marian to a spot in the NACC Tournament.  He averaged 12.4 points per game to go with 4.7 rebounds and 15 assists over seven games.  On the defensive end, he had a pair of blocks and posted a team-high 10 steals.  Ayeni had double-digit points in all seven games of the month posting a season-high 21 points against MSOE where he also had seven rebounds and three steals.  He came just one rebound short of a double-double in a road win at Rockford after scoring 13 points with three assists.  In the NACC Tournament, Ayeni scored 10 points to go with two steals and three assists.  Ayeni finished the month shooting 51.6 percent from the field.
