Annual timber event is back for a seventh time to raise funds for local tech education
The Ledge Games (TLG), a local timber competition for charity, returns to Red Cabin at Green Acres on Saturday, September 24, 2022, for the seventh consecutive year. The event will welcome more than 100 amateur lumberjacks and jills, as they compete for the titles of Man and Woman of the Ledge. Competitors will be joined by hundreds of spectators as family and friends cheer them on throughout the day.
Competition is designed to test competitors’ strength and finesse with events including caber toss, hammer toss, archery, keg toss, speed chop and axe throwing. The winners of each event will take home their own TLG axe, and the winners of each division receive a new chainsaw and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
“What started out as a day to have some fun and raise money seven years ago has turned into a celebration of local manufacturing and industry,” Tyler Oestreich, The Ledge Games co-founder, said. “None of this would be possible without the support of our generous sponsors, including Wisconsin Lighting Lab, ATI, Integrity Saw & Tool, Faith Technologies, Graymont and our host, Red Cabin at Green Acres.”
Each year proceeds from the event fund local tech education, including scholarships for students attending technical colleges throughout the Lake Winnebago region. Since its inception, The Ledge Games raised over $44,500 for 78 scholarships – helping make education more accessible and affordable for local students studying engineering, manufacturing and technology and related fields.
“The Ledge Games is proud to support local tech education and help in the development of the next generation of talent,” Josh Michels, The Ledge Games co-founder, said. “We’re committed to making education more attainable for local students, and we are incredibly grateful to our community as it helps us further this mission.”
The Ledge Games kick off at 8:00 a.m. with events running until approximately 4 p.m. In addition to the lumber competition, TLG offers food, drinks, raffles, entertainment and fun for the whole family.
