Another nail biter goes against Sabre women’s lacrosse

Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-4, 0-0 NACC) was defeated 10-9 by Hamline in its final non-conference game of the season.

  • Both offenses came out firing in the opening quarter with Hamline taking an early 4-3 lead.
  • Senior Nicole Stachon had two of the goals for Marian in the first 15 minutes of action.
  • It took the Sabres just 37 seconds of the second quarter to tie the game at 4-4 with a score from senior Mackenzie Gaulke.
  • The Pipers responded and took a 5-4 lead into halftime after scoring with just 2:37 left in the quarter.
  • Marian opened the second half with the first two goals to take its first lead of the game with 11:19 left in the third quarter.
  • A goal from freshman Sydney Magnuson put Marian ahead 7-6 with 4:01 left in the third stanza.
  • Hamline then tied the game with 2:46 left in the third and scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to lead 10-7.
  • Senior Emma Heide and Stachon each scored in a span of 49 seconds to bring Marian to within one but that would be as close as the Sabres managed.

  • Neither side had a good game when it came to clears with Marian posting 11 successful clears and Hamline only 10.
  • The Pipers had a 33-27 edge for ground balls and 12-11 advantage for draw controls.
  • Marian was just 1-for-6 on free-position attempts.
  • Hamline has won both matches in the all-time series.
