Marian University baseball (7-12, 2-6 NACC) earned a road split against Edgewood falling 8-1 in game one before a 6-4 win in game two.

GAME 1

  • Marian stranded the bases loaded with nobody out in the opening frame of the game.
  • Edgewood was able to take advantage of two Sabre errors in the bottom half to score four runs, three of which were unearned.
  • The Eagles were able to add to their lead with a run in the third and three in the fourth to lead 8-0.
  • Marian was able to get on the board in the seventh when junior Lucas Lemons drove in a run with two outs.

GAME 2

  • Marian was able to open the scoring in game two when junior Jason Sims drove in a run in the third with a sacrifice fly.
  • Edgewood responded in the next half inning plating a pair of unearned runs.
  • Marian retook the lead at 3-2 in the fifth when Sims and freshman Connor Schroeder each drove in a run.
  • Just like the third inning, Edgewood immediately responded taking the lead in the bottom half with a two-run homer.
  • Marian had an answer in the seventh taking a 5-4 lead when a pair of runners touched home after an Eagle error.
  • Sims drove in an insurance run in the ninth to give Marian a 6-4 advantage.
  • The Eagles managed to put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth but back-to-back strikeouts closed out the win.

  • The Eagles had a 12-5 advantage for hits.
  • Each team had two errors with the lone Marian run being unearned and Edgewood scoring two unearned.

GAME 2

  • Marian was outhit 8-6 in the win, just the third time this season the Sabres were outhit and won.
  • The Sabres took advantage of four Edgewood errors scoring three unearned runs.
  • Edgewood also scored two unearned runs off of one Marian error.
  • This was the first victory for Marian this season when they trailed after five innings.
  • Marian is now 48-37 all-time against Edgewood with the two sides splitting their series the past two seasons.

Junior Jason Sims went 2-for-3 in game two with three runs driven in.
Junior Lucas Lemons scored three of the Marian runs in game two.
