Junior Brandon Adorno of Marian University men’s basketball and senior Lexi Brakebush of Marian University women’s basketball have been named the Sabres of the Month for December.
Adorno (Chicago, Ill.) paced the Sabres in December as Marian continued its torrid start to the season. He averaged 14.2 points per game in December while shooting 26-of-49 (.531) from the field. Adorno also led the Marian offense with his 13 assists. On the defensive end of the floor, he finished December with 10 steals making him one of two Sabres to finish with double-digit swipes for the month. His top performance for the month came in an overtime victory over Aurora where he scored a career-high 33 points to go with four steals. Adorno hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime in the victory against the Spartans. He also had an 18-point performance against Benedictine in a home victory. Adorno enters 2025 ranked fourth in the NACC for field goal percentage on the season.
Brakebush (Oxford, Wis.) helped lead Marian to its first conference win of the season in the month of December. No Sabre saw more action than Brakebush as she led Marian in minutes played and averaged 10.8 points per game. She shot an impressive 9-of-19 (.474) from beyond the arc and was second on the team with her 19 rebounds. Brakebush also led the squad with 12 assists to go with seven steals. She opened the month with 17 points against Dominican in a road victory where she also had three steals and four assists. Later that week, Brakebush scored a season-high 18 points against Aurora adding four assists. She was 6-of-10 (.600) on triples between those two games. Brakebush currently ranks fourth in the NACC for three-pointers on the season.
Both Sabre basketball programs open the 2025 portion of its schedules Saturday, January 4 with the women hosting Lawrence at 4 p.m. and the men traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 1 p.m. tip.
