A pair of student-athletes from the Marian University men’s basketball program have earned All-NACC recognition.
Junior Brandon Adorno (Chicago, Ill.) was one of the top scorers for Marian in his first season as a Sabre to earn a First Team All-NACC award. Adorno averaged 14.6 points per game over 22 games adding 68 assists and 27 steals. From the field, Adorno shot 48.9 percent on the campaign. He finished with double-digit points in all but five games and scored at least 20 points four times. His first breakout game came against Lawrence where he scored 25 points against Lawrence. He then netted a season-high 33 points in an overtime win against Aurora at home where he hit a buzzer-beating triple to force the extra session. Adorno also posted four steals on the defensive end in that win over the Spartans. He second 30-point game came in th second half against Concordia Wisconsin. In three games he posted seven assists and he had at least three steals in three games.
Sophomore Andrew Ayeni (Chicago, Ill.) also had an immediate impact for the Sabres earning a spot on the All-NACC Honorable Mention team. Ayeni was a valuable weapon on both ends of the floor averaging 10.3 points per game with 48 assists 14 blocks, and 35 steals. He had double-digit points in 15 games during the season including the final seven of the year. Ayeni scored at least 20 points in two games netting 20 against Dominican and a season-high 21 at home against MSOE. Prior to that performance against MSOE, Ayeni nearly had a double-double against Rockford scoring 13 points to go with nine boards. On the defensive end, he had at least three steals in five games with a season-high of four coming in a road win over Illinois Tech.
