The SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic welcomes Gregory Capelli, DO, a gastroenterologist, to its 420 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac location. He is now accepting new patients.
Dr. Capelli specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease, Barrett’s esophagus, chronic diarrhea and constipation, colon polyps, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. He also performs endoscopic procedures and colonoscopies.
A graduate of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Dr. Capelli completed his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and his gastroenterology fellowship from Aurora Health Care. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Capelli was drawn to gastroenterology because it combines complex medical decision-making, hands-on procedures and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients.
“I enjoy the variety of gastroenterology, from preventive care such as colorectal cancer screening to managing chronic diseases like inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease, as well as performing procedures that can immediately improve a patient’s quality of life,” says Dr. Capelli.
His clinical interests include colorectal cancer prevention through screening colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal disorders, endoscopy, and the management of chronic liver disease.
Dr. Capelli believes listening is one of the most important parts of patient care and strives to ensure every patient feels heard, informed and involved in decisions about their health.
“Every patient has a unique story, and I want patients to feel heard before we talk about tests or treatment plans,” he says. “My goal is to work together with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that fits their needs, values and lifestyle.”
He also encourages patients not to ignore digestive symptoms and emphasizes the importance of preventive care.
“Many gastrointestinal conditions are highly treatable, and patients do not need to suffer in silence,” says Dr. Capelli. “Screening colonoscopy is one of the few tests that can actually prevent cancer by removing precancerous polyps before they become a problem.”
Originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin, Dr. Capelli enjoys spending time with his wife and family, strength training, fishing and watching football. An avid Green Bay Packers fan, he and his wife are excited to become part of the Fond du Lac community.
“I’m excited to begin caring for patients in the Fond du Lac community,” says Dr. Capelli. “My goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care while making sure patients feel comfortable asking questions and actively participating in their healthcare decisions.”
