SSM Health is giving a $6,000 community health gift to NAMI Fond du Lac County to support mental health education, community connection opportunities, and youth programs throughout Fond du Lac County.
The funding will help NAMI Fond du Lac County expand its mental health initiatives, including monthly Togetherness Events and evidence-based youth programs that increase awareness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals and families with resources and support. The organization’s programming is designed to address barriers to mental health care, including social isolation, limited access to services, and a lack of preventive mental health education.
NAMI Fond du Lac County serves approximately 500 individuals annually through support groups, educational programs, outreach efforts, and community events. The organization provides its services at no cost to participants, helping ensure access to support regardless of financial circumstances.
“We know that mental health is essential to overall health and well-being,” according to Bill Boyd, SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital vice president of operations. “NAMI Fond du Lac County is making a meaningful difference by creating opportunities for connection, education, and support for people of all ages. Through this community health gift, we are proud to invest in programs that help build a stronger, healthier community.”
The gift aligns with SSM Health’s commitment to improving community health and supporting initiatives that address identified local health needs, including increased access to behavioral health services and mental health resources.
NAMI Fond du Lac County plans to use the funding to support community-based Togetherness Events that encourage social connectedness and reduce isolation, while also expanding youth-focused programs, such as Ending the Silence, Mental Health Chat, and NAMI Basics. These programs provide mental health education, help individuals recognize warning signs and connect families with resources.
“This generous gift from SSM Health will help us reach more individuals and families with programs that promote hope, understanding, and recovery,” says Kim Miller, NAMI Fond du Lac County grant and fundraising coordinator. “Whether it’s a young person learning about mental health for the first time, a parent seeking support, or someone looking for connection through our Togetherness Events, this funding will help ensure those opportunities remain accessible and free to our community.”
NAMI Fond du Lac County collaborates with health care providers, schools, and community organizations to improve mental health outcomes and reduce stigma across the county. Through initiatives focused on education, early intervention and social connection, the organization works to create a more informed and supportive community for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
