Marian Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Marian University athletics has announced its Hall of Fame Class of 2026 consisting of four members.

“We’re excited to induct this well-rounded and talented group into the Marian Athletics Hall of Fame in September,” said Director of Athletics Tony Draves.  “We have everything represented; great players as well as a legendary coach and administrator.  Congratulations to Jason, Ty, Rachel, and Katie on this well-deserved honor.”

Katie (Schleis) Hampton becomes the seventh women’s basketball player to earn a spot in the Hall of Fame after competing from 1987-1991. She enters the Hall of Fame fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,396 points, and fourth in program history averaging 14.0 points per game. She was an All-Conference selection three times during her career; once while in the WIC-WAC and twice with the LMC. Hampton also enters the Hall of Fame as the all-time leader for assists with 393 and posted the fifth-most steals with 181. She remains one of only five student-athletes in program history to hit the 100-assist plateau in a single campaign. Her 1987-88 season saw her score 424 points, ninth for a single season, with an 18.4 points per game average, fifth-best for a single season. Then in her 1989-90 campaign, she became only the second student-athlete in program history to reach 100 assists in a single season with 105.

“I would like to thank Marian Athletics for this great honor of being selected into the Hall of Fame,” said Hampton.  “Without the support of family, teammates, and coaches I could not have accomplished this.  I am grateful for my basketball career, education, and great memories from Marian University.”

Rachel Schulze earns induction into the Hall of Fame as the sixth student-athlete from the softball program having competed from 2001-04. Schulze was a three-time All-Conference selection earning LMC Player of the Year recognition twice along with becoming the first NFCA First Team All-Region honoree her senior season.  In that season, she hit .402 with 53 base hits, 18 of which were doubles to set a single-season record, 22 runs driven in and 20 runs scored. This helped propel Marian to its third LMC Championship in program history. Schulze enters the Hall of Fame ninth all-time with 161 hits and second all-time for doubles with 40.  As a freshman, she was part of a Marian squad that went 22-14 with an 11-1 conference record.  The Sabres eventually won the LMC Tournament to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

“Being inducted into the Marian University Athletics Hall of Fame is an incredible honor,” said Schulze.  “Only 7% of high school athletes go on to play in college, and I’m grateful Marian gave me opportunities I don’t think I would have had anywhere else, like earning Player of the Year and traveling to Amsterdam.  Most of all, Coach Ann and my teammates made those four years some of the most memorable of my life.”

Ty Roznowski becomes the seventh member of the Marian men’s basketball program to be inducted into the Marian Athletics Hall of Fame after an outstanding career from 1990-93.  Roznowski became the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career points and enters the Hall of Fame eighth on the all-time scoring list at 1,259 points.  A dynamic all-around player, Roznowski also finished his career with 437 assists, the third-most in program history, while his defensive impact was equally impressive, ranking second all-time with 180 steals.  He remains one of only two student-athletes in program history to record multiple seasons with at least 149 assists.  Roznowski earned All-Conference honors all three years of his career was named an NAIA All-District selection in the 1991-92 season.  That season saw him shoot 49.4 percent from three-point range, a program record that stood for 31 years.

“I’m deeply honored to join the Marian Athletics Hall of Fame,” said Roznowski.  “It’s a privilege to be recognized alongside so many outstanding athletes, and I’m forever grateful for my time at Marian.”

Jason Bartelt earns induction in the Marian Athletics Hall of Fame for his role as the head coach of the baseball program for 15 seasons, from 2002 to 2016, and director of athletics for eight years, from 2014 to 2022. Bartelt enters the Hall of Fame with the second-most wins in Marian baseball history with 227 victories. Marian qualified for the conference tournament eight times during his tenure as the head of the baseball program and led the Sabres to their first NACC Championship in 2015. That 2015 campaign saw the Sabres go 24-15 with a 17-3 record in NACC action under his guidance. Following his coaching career, he helped lead the charge for an unprecedented growth of the athletic department adding five NCAA sports and four club programs to Marian Athletics. Marian appeared in four national tournaments during this time; two for the ACHA Division II program, one for the men’s basketball program, and one for the NCAA men’s ice hockey program. The 2017-18 Marian NCAA men’s ice hockey team became the first team in Marian history to earn an at-large bid to the national tournament. Bartelt is also a member of the Hall of Fame for Lakeland University Athletics, Sheboygan A’s Baseball Club, and the Wisconsin State Baseball League.

“It is an extreme honor to be considered for the Marian University Athletics Hall of Fame,” said Bartelt.  “I was so fortunate and thankful to work alongside of so many great coaches, support staff, college administrators, and presidents.  They, along with our wonderful student-athletes during my time, made the job extremely rewarding.”
