Marian University Athletics is proud to announce its finalists for Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 academic year.
A committee consisting of members from the staff and faculty determine the Student-Athlete of the Year based on academics, athletics, and community service. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must be at least a sophomore for the entire academic year. The male and female Student-Athletes of the Year will be announced at the Hall of Fame and Alumni Awards ceremony Saturday, Sept. 21.
Male Finalists
Ryan Dreikosen • Bowling
Ryan Dreikosen had another stellar year on the lanes for Marian, earning GLBC Player of the Year recognition. Dreikosen went on to average 221.1 pins over the four GLBC events to earn his Player of the Year honor and also helped lead the Sabres to their first GLBC Championship in program history. He was the top bowler at the first GLBC Event of the year, averaging 228.2 pins. Dreikosen finished the season averaging 210.1 pins over 12 events, which ranked second on the squad.
Logan Rademan • Baseball
Logan Rademan had a breakout season on the Marian baseball team, earning All-Region recognition through D3baseball.com along with a spot on the All-NACC Second Team. Rademan ranked seventh in the NACC for batting average and was held hitless in only seven games. One of his top moments came against Aurora, ranked 17th in the country at the time, when he hit a game-tying home run which led Marian to a walk-off win an inning later. Rademan also earned his second CSC Academic All-District Award, which combines athletics and academics.
Derek Wills • Volleyball
Derek Wills had another stellar season with the men’s volleyball program, earning his second All-NACC First Team selection and fourth All-Conference award of his career. Wills finished the season ranked in the NACC in several categories. He was fifth for kills per set, fifth for points per set, and ninth for digs per set. Wills had eight double-doubles in the campaign and became just the second Sabre in program history to reach 1,000 career kills. Off the court, he earned his second CSC Academic All-District Award, which combines athletics and academics.
Female Finalists
Jenna Betts • Bowling
Jenna Betts closed out a spectacular career with the Marian women’s bowling program, earning her fourth All-CCIW award. Betts won four CCIW Championships during her career and helped lead the Sabres to their first berth in the NCAA Tournament last season. Her top moment came at the second CCIW meet of the year where she averaged 182.7 pins to finish first. Along with her work on the lanes, Betts earned two CSC Academic All-District Awards, which combines athletics and academics.
Kayla Kolpitcke • Hockey / Lacrosse
Kayla Kolpitcke finished her career leaving her mark as a member of the women’s ice hockey and lacrosse programs. On the ice, Kolpitcke set a single-season Marian record for goals-against average en route to becoming the first Sabre to earn a second All-NCHA selection. Then in lacrosse, Kolpitcke earned a spot on the All-NACC Second Team and graduated as the all-time leader for ground balls and caused turnovers. She also earned two CSC Academic All-District Awards, which combines athletics and academics, in her career.
Nicole Stachon • Lacrosse
Nicole Stachon paced the offense for the Marian women’s lacrosse team and went on to earn a spot on the All-NACC Second Team. Stachon had the best year of her career, scoring 32 goals with 15 assists for 47 total points over only 14 games. She enters her final season of eligibility as the all-time leader for games played, points, assists, and draw controls. Stachon was a two-time CSC Academic All-District Award winner, which combines athletics and academics. You can find her all over campus serving as a manager for several teams and serving a pivotal role on the residence life staff.
