YP of the Month – Tomessa Marley (November 2023)

First and Last Name: Tomessa Marley

Hometown: Born in Yuma AZ Raised near Oakfield WI

What Brought you to Fond du Lac: Fond du Lac was the closest city from where I grew up. Living in the city is more convenient.

Place of Employment and Position: The Arc Fond du Lac, Inc., Case Manager Assistant

What do you enjoy the most about your career?
The smiles on my clients faces have to be the best part! I am a case manager assistant at The Arc Fond du Lac which is an umbrella of a title. Within all my job duties, I am able to share my joy for the holidays with everyone and that’s very special to me.

What words of wisdom would you share with other YP’s in relation to career building?
Find something you are passionate about. Then go with it and grow with it. Embrace your YOU-ness in everything you do. If you put your whole self into your career and you are not satisfied then do the hokey pokey and take your whole self out because that is not the job for you. If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life. It’s cliché but so true.

Who or what inspires and motivates you to be your best?
I have phenomenal role models in my life who inspire me. From my sister to my bosses and all those in between. My grandma and the clients are my motivation. I do what I do for them.

What are 3 Characteristics and/or Strengths that make you who you are?
Creative. Enthusiastic. Loving.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time/a hobby you enjoy?
I have so many hobbies! But I really like to paint, garden, and hang out with my dog Mojo.

What is your favorite part about being in YPF and how has it benefited you?
My favorite part would be joining the Casino Night Committee. I love planning and executing parties/events and from being on the committee I have learned a lot about the prep and behind the scenes stuff for large events.

What does community engagement look like for you?
Community engagement is seeing everyone come together for local events and volunteering within our own community. I see this in Fond du Lac and love it!

Share a lesson you have learned or a nugget of advice with other YP’s:
Be authentic and stay true to yourself. “There is nobody else you-er than you!” Dr. Seuss.

What do you love about the Fond du Lac area today and what is your hope for it’s tomorrow?
I love that there are so many local events and I don’t need to go out of town to find something to do. Our farmer’s market is amazing, live music is everywhere, trivia and feudmaster are offered weekly, and that’s just what I can think of right now. I have seen Fond du Lac grow and just hope for more inclusion in our future here together.
