REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN TO FAMILIES IN THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
With Fond du Lac schools deciding to open the school year in the Blended Learning Model to students in 5th grade and under, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA is stepping up to help working parents.
“The Fond du Lac Family YMCA has been here for over 115 years responding to community need, and in 2020 the need is to provide families with a safe space for their kids to learn in the upcoming school year, offering working parents an option for their kids to do just that,” says Jennie Mildebrandt, Fond du Lac Family YMCA Director of Program Development.
The Y has developed a program called the Y Learning Academy, offering academic time, physical activity and peer connections in a small group setting, all with support from staff at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA.
“The kids who enroll in this program are going to be engaged in virtual learning environments with their respective school districts, so in our program there will be academic time set aside for them to do their academic work, along with support from our staff. We also want to make sure they’re getting physical activity, so we will provide a structured day that will provide both,” says Mildebrandt.
The Y will offer the program to kids in grades K-5. The fee for the program will be $60 per week. Parents will choose either a Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday schedule. The Y Learning Academy will be open to the entire community, regardless of which school district children attend.
“Additional program details and registration information will be released once families in the Fond du Lac School district are given details on their cohort assignment in the Blended Learning Model, so that they can choose the correct days to register for,” says Mildebrandt.
