Sabre baseball swept by No. 14 Benedictine

Marian University baseball (16-13, 10-6 NACC) was defeated by No. 14 Benedictine 8-0 and 7-5 on the road.

GAME 1
  • The Sabre offense had a tough time in the opener of the doubleheader managing only three hits.
  • Benedictine opened with five runs in the first and was able to put the game out of reach with three more runs in the fifth.

GAME 2

  • Marian struck first in game two with graduate student Dylan Pease driving a run in the second.
  • Junior Riley Palmquist then put Marian ahead 2-0 in the fourth with a run-producing single.
  • After a run from Benedictine in the fifth, Palmquist would leave the yard in the next half inning to put Marian ahead 3-1.
  • The two-run cushion became just one again with an Eagle run in the sixth.
  • Benedictine was able to get to the Sabre bullpen in the seventh scoring three runs to take its first lead of the game at 5-3.
  • Marian quickly responded in the top of the eighth when junior Gus Walker tied the game at 5-5 with a single.
  • A long ball from Benedictine in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference, however, as the Eagles were able to secure a sweep.

Senior Riley Palmquist was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in and two runs scored in game two.
Junior James Bornick had two of the three Marian hits in game one.
Junior Gus Walker tied the game in the eighth of game two with a single that scored two runs.
