Fond du Lac School District Board Approved Two Administrative Hires for the 2024-25 School Year

Cathy Prozanski will be the new principal of Roberts Elementary starting August 8, 2024. She comes to the Fond du Lac School District (FDL-SD) having most recently served in the Madison Metropolitan School District as an elementary principal at Gompers and Lapham since 2018.

Beginning her educational career in 1988, Mrs. Prozanski has extensive experience in various teaching roles, including special education, elementary education and early childhood. She moved into administration in 2007. Her past roles include assistant principal and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) coordinator in the Mauston School District, principal at Brillion Elementary, and principal and supervisor of preschool programming at Thomas Jefferson Elementary in Wausau.

“I am honored and excited to be welcomed into the Fond du Lac School District and the Roberts School community,” said Prozanski. “I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the students.”

Mrs. Prozanski holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership and a superintendent’s license from Viterbo University, an early childhood certification from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

“We are pleased to welcome Cathy Prozanski to our team as the new Roberts principal,” said Dr. Jeff Fleig, Superintendent. “Her wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational leadership will be invaluable in guiding Roberts on a continual path of academic growth for our students.”

The Fond du Lac School District (FDL-SD) is excited to announce Melanie Steinbarth’s promotion to Principal of Chegwin Elementary, effective August 8, 2024. Mrs. Steinbarth, currently the Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) at Chegwin, has been instrumental in the TOSA role since the start of the TOSA program in the FDL-SD. Her positive energy and familiarity with the school community will enhance Chegwin’s educational environment. 

Mrs. Steinbarth began her educational career in 2003 as a second-grade teacher in New Holstein. She then joined Chegwin Elementary, teaching first and second grades from 2005 to 2020. She briefly taught at Lakeshore Elementary, then became Lakeshore’s TOSA before returning to Chegwin as the TOSA this year. 

She holds a Master of Reading Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, a principal licensure from Concordia University-Wisconsin, and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

“The district and Chegwin learning community look forward to Melanie Steinbarth moving into an expanded leadership role,” said Dr. Jeff Fleig, Superintendent. “Her proven leadership and commitment to excellence will continue to propel Chegwin forward. We are confident that her passion and deep roots in the community will bring about a vibrant era of learning and growth.” 

Mrs. Steinbarth emerged as the top choice from our external and internal applicants. The FDL-SD Administrator Hiring Pool showcases our district’s strategy for internal promotions to leadership positions. This initiative allows staff like Melanie to pursue administrative roles and for our district to strategically plan leadership opportunities and growth for our promising staff members.
